Its easier to dodge out of the assembly these days because its usually just governing body praise.

Would you be able to survive a three day Assembly?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe last assembly i attended was over 10 years ago.
the monotone speakers, boring talks, uncomfortable seats, long prayers and nodding off after the lunch break did me in.
i survived the morning sessions, but the afternoon sessions were brutal.

First Church Service at 55 years Old
by SouthCentral ini went to a christening at a church today, a black church.
it was an incredible experience!!
women were an active part of the service, and the people were very welcoming.

SouthCentral;
I think its just part of the brainwashing & the isolation strategy the Borg uses.

Did your witness family have a 'Thanksgiving' that wasn't on Thanksgiving?
by SydBarrett inmy family had several elders, ministerial servants, auxillary pioneers etc, so it certainly wasn't one of those 'barely in' families.
but in certain small ways, i think mine were slightly less hard line than some other families i've heard stories about over the years.
one example was the 'fall dinner'.

In Canada,,, Thanksgiving falls on the 2nd Monday in October..
It seems to fit. Shorter dayys,, cooler weather.
Seems to fit with entering a cooler season. Thanksgiving does.

The CONNventions;;
Some of its nostalgic in a way.
The cheap soft drinks in a can. The frozen orange juice. Frozen pudding,,,,ham hoagie,,,,,
,,,,,these small perks made the 3 or even 4 day boasting sessions a 'lil more bearable.

Growing up as a kid in the Borg the motivating incentives to surviving each day of the convention was....
A meal in a restaurant
& a refreshing night on the waterslides & the pool.
There,,,, that was incentive to surviving each day of the assembly..
You had that,,,,,,to look forward to!!!

A whole bunch of people,,, lets say around 60 people,,,, several families.
A few families would roast turkeys,,, others bake apple or pumpkin pies.
Some would bring ice cream,,,
Others would mash potatoes,,,
Some would bring cranberry sauce,,,
A few families would make salads or coleslaw,,,,
And they would always rent some dance hall about a week after or before Thanksgiving.

What would happen to a JW for celebrating Christmas?
by Vanderhoven7 inmark jones writes:.
if they were spied upon and it was reported to the elders they’d be “invited” to a judicial committee whereupon they’d be cross examined in a locked backroom by three men acting as judge and jury to decide if they are guilty.. .
if the elders decide that they are guilty, they’ll then decide if the person is sorry.

I was on the ball & bolted out of the venue just when the final dude finished his talk. Between then and the other guy coming on stage & giving his comments.

I remember in the 1980s they had 4 - day CONventions beginning with Thursday afternoon.
They even had field service arrangement in the afternoons on either the Thursday or Friday afternoon.
I remember a few perks like the Shasta cola or Sprite. Fruit bags,, potato chips & chocolate pudding which would help take the ""sting"',, out of the long afternoons.

You could celebrate Xmas in kind of a low key "not known" kind of way.
ie) not putting up a tree or decorations
But just roasting a turkey. Lots of fine baking,, small gifts & have a few non jw relatives or just friends over.
